A year ago we went on a family overnight canoe trip to the BWCA with our kids. We swam a lot, explored, and camped in peace. As always, I bring a camera to take a lot of photos of the family and inspiration for future paintings. This place and these moments bring me such peace during the winter months.
The process for this painting began as a small sketch in the car on the way to Thanksgiving dinner, five months after the trip had ended. From there, the idea formed into a painting that I knew was going to be big. The finished painting is on a 30"x40"x1.5" deep-edged canvas. The painting wraps around the edges and was made as a companion piece to my most popular painting in similar style, The Canoe Trip.
"Serenity" gives me the feeling of slowing down to sit and take in the view. Have a snack on a rock, listen to the water gently slap the canoe, feel the warmth of the sun on the rock you're sitting on and smell the cedar trees surrounding you. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
